Párraga
often worked as a cartoonist due to his simplicity and his recognizable
and attractive style: «... I’ve
always made flat paintings, very deceptive, with an almost Egyptian
concept...» (La
Verdad. 23- IX- 1990).
«Párraga
makes the theme stand out in the posters, making it comprehensible
and direct, without losing its forms... He often worked as a muralist,
which helped him acquire the space and distance skills required by
this advertising medium» (1)
In 1978,
the Choir of the University of Murcia made a tour through various
cities of Germany, and Párraga was in charge of making the
poster.
At first
glance one may think that there is no compositional order, due to
the apparent random positioning of the twelve faces and the two big
hands. However, the space is divided in thirds, both in horizontal
and vertical. This classic division is frequently used by Párraga,
and it organizes the space.
There are
four elements that symbolize the city of Murcia: the bridge, the tower,
the palm tree and the crowned heart, which are represented on the
center of the poster. Although it may seem like a chaotic and improvised
disposition at first, the truth is that the composition is elaborated
and adapted to classic patterns: «I
enjoy making the composition, but then I have to do an artisanal work
that I don’t like».
(La Verdad. 23- IX- 1990).
