PÁRRAGA EN HOLANDA

........................................

.....................................

Dear all,

In the legacy of my parents I found the picture of which I include a picture with this mail.
I made a special picture of the signature.

My parents had a hotel and a lot of artists stayed in our hotel because they visited a group of artists who lived in our village.
We called the picture “A Spanishman in the Netherlands”, because you can see the wooden shoes and the windmill as a symbol of the Netherlands, but the style of the two figures is more Spanish.

My question:
Could the picture be of Jose Maria Parraga, the painter of which I found your mailadres?

With kind regards,

Joop Goossens

Un par de días después, respondimos:

Good evening,

Indeed, we have documented a trip made by José María Párraga to Holland during the Summer of 1962. The local press published two articles about said trip in October:

He stayed there for a few months. He was 25 years old at the time and was in the process of creating his own style.

We believe that he held an exhibition in Deurne, at the Trade Fair, and some say he held exhibitions in Eindhoven and Zandvoort as well.

Until we received your email, we didn’t have any more news concerning this phase, so we are very grateful for the information you just provided. We would like to know the exact measures and the technique which was used (it may be acrylics or oil), as well as the support.

You can find all the information regarding this painter’s work on the website we are currently working on. We could incorporate your painting, if that is alright with you.

We would love to know any more information you may find about this phase.

Thank you very much for your collaboration.

Greetings,

Antonio

Y el día 1 de julio volvimos a tener noticias:

Hello Antonio,

Thank you for your respons.

I think José Mario Párraga was in Deurne (when he stayed in the hotel of my parents) and visited the local artists:

- Willi Martinali (1914 - 1983), painter and textile artist and his nephew who lived in hos house: ( https://www.google.com/search?q=willi+martinali+deurne&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiw5bz7_5PjAhUI4aQKHdKVDfEQ_AUIECgB&biw=1440&bih=747 )

- Jack Harden (1935 - 2002), painter https://www.google.com/search?biw=1440&bih=747&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=5SEaXeyjKsPUkwX7wKC4BQ&q=jack+harden+deurne&oq=jack+harden+deurne&gs_l=img.3...63016.72823..74291...0.0..1.191.2025.38j1......0....1..gws-wiz-img.....0..0i24j0i19j0i8i30i19j0i30i19j0i5i30i19j0j0i67j0i30j0i5i30j0i8i30.fl9lOJmNnCY

and possibly: Hendrik Wiegersma (1891-1969), who has an own museum now in Deurne (De Wieger).

For more info also look: www.hendrikwiegersma.com and https://www.google.com/search?q=hendrik+wiegersma+deurne&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjLht3U_5PjAhXQPOwKHTfpAc0Q_AUIECgB&biw=1440&bih=747

At this moment I cannot find more information about Jose Maria Parraga and his stay here in Deurne.
If you are really interested I can ask our “Local History Volunteers” if they can find something.
Please let me know if you are interested in this information.

Me and my sister would be very honored if you show the picture I send you on the website.
Meanwhile I will contact our Local History Volunteers.

With kind regards and greetings,

Joop Goossens
